Description
These tagua brooches are individually hand carved from a single tagua nut: a seed from a type of palm that grow in the South American rainforests. Often known as vegetable ivory, tagua nuts are an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to animal ivory. The tagua is sliced into thin sections and the silhouette is cut out. The material is then coloured using textile dyes before the final details are engraved by hand. Designed by illustrator Coralie Bickford-Smith. Hand carved by Olga and Elisa of the Yurac Muyo Project in Quito, Ecuador. MATERIALS Tagua with gold plated steel brooch backs. DIMENSIONS Approx size 5cm x 2.5cm. PACKAGING Packed on a Just Trade tent card in a biodegradable cello bag.
