Description
Guard the tomes in your library with these bookplates featuring a tower of snakes. Titled Popish Pyramid, this 1560 engraving by printmaker Hendrick Hondius depicts a pyramid formed by a large snake representing the papacy and many small snakes symbolizing other elements of the Catholic Church. Two small snakes are referred to as Loyola and Father Johannes de Gouda. At the top left is the Word of God from a thundercloud. Bookplates are crafted on 50# White English Finish Gummed Paper and hand-cut to size. Gummed paper is coated with an adhesive backing that requires water to activate (similar to traditional stamps). Once the adhesive is activated, the paper will adhere to the front pastedown of your book. Bookplates are absolutely gorgeous! As I was inventorying them I sold three of the octopus before I could put them on the floor. They are truly an authentic bookplate that is not a peel and stick sticker. They have a thin layer of glue on the back and you wet them with a tiny sponge and they stick really well and lay perfectly flat. The calendar of women writers sold out in two days and we have reordered already. They're notebooks are super cool too!
