It is dedicated to the woman who held my heart like a grandmother and who will always live in my memories. Mayita was her name, and she was my mother’s aunt. Her home used to be my mother’s first home when she was recently married, and years later, it was passed down to her. Her home held so many memories of celebrations and joy in my childhood years and of others. There, children from the neighborhood gathered to recite everyday prayers in the afternoon followed by a treat of cookies and tea. We also played lotería, which is Mexican bingo. During Christmas holidays, we would collect a pot made of clay to make a handmade piñata filled with candy. We would break the piñata by hitting it with a decorated piece of broomstick as we sang the classic “Dale, Dale” song in her backyard where our laughter still echoes through the alleyways. Another lovely memory was spending time in her backyard right after a rainy day, helping her clean up weeds and refresh her garden. That is where I picked up and enjoyed the smell of all these mix of aromas. This wax melt label is my inspiration for how I remembered her home as a child. Her house patio was a peaceful and rejuvenating retreat where you could connect with nature. This fragrance is the closest blend that I could possibly replicate of how her backyard smelled after the rain. As it settles, the peppermint plant right outside her door gave the air an ice-cool and crisp touch, carrying with it the gentle rustling of rain-soaked leaves, a place that exudes warmth, charm, and a sense of timeless comfort. Today, as a grown-up woman, rainy days still bring such nostalgia into my life, a reminisce about the past and savor the simple joys of life. Each time I light this wax melt, I am immediately transported back to those happy moments spent in her backyard, creating new memories with those I now hold dearly. Today, as I launch this wax melt, I honor and thank the amazing woman for sharing her home and her heart with me and all the children around her.
