Rap Quotable Coasters: Rap Lyrics in Plain English, Show Off Your Style While You Sip. As a big Rap/hip-hop fan, I know how much rap is comprised of slang. To unpack any rapper's lines, one has to understand where the rapper is from and re-interpret the message for yourself. Every rap fan understands a rapper's lyrics in a very different way, as the comments on lyrics on Genius will tell you. This led me to start a Tumblr blog called Rap Quotables (rapquotables.tumblr.com), where I rewrite rap lyrics in everyday English and use the rapper's legal/birth names to give the words an everyday feel. I call these rewritten words 'quotables', to show that they are different from direct quotes from the song - but I make sure to caption the quotables with the original quotes to encourage dialogue from people who might have a different interpretation of the lyrics.
