This handled bowl bears the craftsmanship of Les Étains du Manoir, a Parisian house that carried on the tradition of artistic pewter throughout the 20th century. The castle hallmark, ÉTAINS DU MANOIR, PARIS FRANCE, appears proudly beneath the pierced handle. The piece is marked with reference 1332 and dates from the 1970s–1980s production. The bowl pairs a thick, clear glass cup with a wide polished pewter rim, extended by a handle cut into Baroque scrolls inspired by the silverware bowls of the Grand Siècle. This dialogue between the transparency of the glass and the matte sheen of the pewter gives the object a presence that is at once rustic and precious. One thinks of the bowls of old that were given at birth or baptism, placed on the sideboards of manor houses. This one revives that memory while fitting into a contemporary interior. One can imagine it on a small round table, late-afternoon light sliding over the pewter and passing through the glass to cast silvery reflections on the wood. As a catchall by the door, a dried-fruit bowl on a festive table, or a simple object of contemplation, it tells of a workshop France and of fine material. The glass cup measures approximately 14 cm in diameter. The set is complete, delivered in its original box bearing the house’s colors, and is in very good condition.
