Though it has gone through many incarnations the pier is still there as a Huntington Beach landmark (that’s HB to the locals). In 1925 Duke Kahanamoku introduced a sport called surfing to HB and since then its steady rise in popularity has led to the city being called “Surf City U.S.A.” and the home of the U.S. Open of Surfing—drawing millions annually.
