Mary Bruno’s popular, old-school, analog letterpress art is a tool of her legacy. It tells stories, it connects people, it builds communities, it is modern magic. For 20 years, Mary has used her antique presses to connect with and unite modern humanity. Mary’s bold and unapologetic creativity hails from her small, rural studio in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Her humor shines in her line of irreverent greeting cards and her meticulous linoleum carving skills are captured in her fine art prints. Her work has been recognized in news, media, books, and at events across the United States. Clients around the world have sought her out for her deeply personal, story-driven projects. The magnetic draw of her cause-related prints have generated thousands of dollars for charities — including the people of Ukraine, Catholic Charities, Planned Parenthood, and Fe y Justicia; a local non-profit dedicated to providing meals for families affected by ICE. Although Mary earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking, she never planned to own a print shop. That all changed in 2003 when her father passed away suddenly and she chose to carry forward his legacy through Bruno Press. Along the way, she fell in love with the smell of ink, the feel of type, and the way afternoon light spills across a press bed. Today, Mary lives to carve linoleum blocks, set type, swap stories with old-timers, teach the manual process to newbies, and be her best self while making the world a happier place.Read their story
