The polar partner to the North Star, the Southern Cross traces a line due South, guiding sailors on their adventures across the Pacific. Also known as Crux or Hanaiakamalama in Hawaiian, the beloved constellation is visible in Hawai‘i from December to January, just above the horizon in the southern sky before sunrise.
