She is more than beautiful. Read it again: She is more. Than beautiful. Historically, women have been the anonymous subjects of paintings rather than the renowned masters of them. Pretty becomes a consolation prize in this sense, ignoring hopes, dreams, flaws, sharp edges, victories, and journeys of very real people. Women inspire me. But I do not paint them for their loveliness as much as for their stories. Women cannot be restricted to the role of muse when we have so much more to offer than sitting prettily in a gilded cage.
