Description
Every sandhill crane art print in this group began as an original watercolor of one of North America’s most ancient birds. Sandhill cranes have been dancing for ten million years — that’s documented fossil record, not metaphor. Their courtship displays involve leaping, bowing, wing-spreading, and calling in unison, and I’ve watched these dances in Florida fields enough to paint them from memory. The joy in these paintings is real. I work freehand on archival cotton rag paper with Kissho Gansai mineral pigments from Kyoto. The crane’s warm gray plumage and red crown require a palette that balances earth tones with moments of vivid color. Whether the painting catches a pair mid-dance or a line of cranes walking single file across a marsh, each composition captures the ceremony and movement that make sandhill cranes impossible to look away from. Every giclée is produced in my Pawtucket studio with color matched to the original. Crane prints bring warmth and movement to dining rooms, hallways, and any space that welcomes celebration.
