The designs in this collection of bags are derived from Mayan women's textiles, in this case the elaborate hand-embroidered "randas" that are used to join huipil panels throughout the Western highlands. The beadwork is done by a women's cooperative near Lake Atitlán, and the bag is finished with a vintage style metal clasp frame. The removable knotted cotton crossbody strap was designed to mimic ropes of ikat yarn before they are separated to reveal their patterns. A stylish and distinctive accessory.
