Product description

On August 7, 2011, former Pennsylvania Railroad E8A diesel units No. 5711 & No. 5809 pass through Greenville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, on the former Erie Railroad, now Norfolk Southern Railway, during a rail excursion. The Erie & Pittsburgh line once served Greenville. Kenneth Springirth, interested in rail transportation since 1960, was born & raised in Philadelphia, commuting to Drexel Institute of Technology by trolley, subway, & sometimes Pennsylvania Railroad train. His father and grandfather were trolley car motormen. This book is a photographic essay documenting the Pennsylvania Railroad, featuring classic GG1 electric locomotives from the U.S.'s most successful electrification project. It provides insight into a railroad system that survives today, with Norfolk Southern owning much of the former mainline trackage and Amtrak owning the Northeast Corridor.
