Description
African glass beads for making jewelry like earrings, necklaces, and bracelets, also known as Krobo beads made by the krobo people in Ghana. The beads simulate the Venetian's trade beads, a form of currency from the 16th century until the early twentieth century. The process of making glass beads begins with crushing recycled glass into powder, heating the powder to make it solid, baking it in a clay oven, and pouring it into molds to create these round beads. Decorations on the beads are made with a paste of colored glass powder and water, which is applied by hand using a thin wooden stalk. The beads are cooked a second time to fix the decor. Each bead is unique, and the strand may vary slightly from the photos. Bead Size: 11-13mm diameter Strand Length: 17" Approximate # of Beads: 34 Hole Size: 3mm
