The Suri, or Surma, tribe are a relatively unknown agropastoral people who have lived on the border of southwestern Ethiopia and Sudan for generations. They have cultural ties to the Nilotic people of Sudan and are related to Ethiopia's Mursi and other tribal groups in the area. Historically, the tribes in these outlying areas have been locked in inter-tribal rivalries resulting in years of bloodshed.
