This Large Whelk is a member of the Sinistrofulgur genus of large sea snails with left-handed coiling. Relatively late on the fossil record among mollusks, this species dates back to the Oligocene period spanning 33.9 to 23 million years ago. We appreciate the lovely shells left behind by these inhabitants of the shallow coastal waters of the East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico. Dimensions: 12.5”W x 7.625”D x 5”H, Weight: 3.4 lb. 1 Star — Very Fragile The map turtle wall hanging shell is extremely fragile and chips with the slightest movement. It’s far too delicate to handle or transport, and the material feels brittle and poorly made. Looks nice online, but in reality it can’t withstand normal use. Very disappointing and not worth the price.

Despite our attempts to connect with the customer and remedy his concerns about these items, he elected to leave these reviews on products which were damaged under his care, over 2 weeks after they were successfully received. The pieces were repackaged by the customer and broken after he subsequently traveled with them. These items are handmade in plaster here in the US and we have been making and shipping them from our Atlanta studios for nearly 50 years. Plaster is a material that has been used for thousands of years throughout history, but does require extra care in handling and packaging. Rest assured, we take great pride and care to send you beautiful, unique handmade items safely.
