Turmeric or Curcuma is a plant that has a very long history of medicinal use in Ayurveda and its use dates back nearly 4000 years to the Vedic culture in India, where it was used as a culinary spice and had some religious significance. Curcumin is the active ingredient in the traditional herbal remedy and dietary spice turmeric (Curcuma longa). Curcumin has a surprisingly wide range of beneficial properties, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Curcuma Longa is traditionally used in Ayurveda to relieve pain and inflammation and assist in the healing of minor wounds such as cuts and burns and minor skin irritations. Curcumin is used in Herbal medicine as a liver protectant and anti-inflammatory to help relieve joint pain.
