John Pugh en zijn vrouw Jessica Robinson begonnen in 2011 het House of Swank in een klein appartement met 2 slaapkamers in Raleigh NC. John speelde muziekoptredens in de stad met zijn wereldberoemde 3-snarige lunchboxgitaar genaamd de „Fritocaster”, en besloot dat hij wat merchandise nodig had om te verkopen. Hij kon niets vinden wat hij leuk vond, dus als doe-het-zelver ontwierp en printte hij 5 shirts en nam ze mee naar shows. Ik heb ze verkocht. Nog 10 gemaakt. Ik heb ze verkocht. Enkele stickers en blikkoelers toegevoegd. En het ging maar door... In de loop der jaren hebben we ons gevestigd op honderden pop-upmarkten en festivals in de hele staat, waaronder Merlefest, het International Bluegrass Music Association festival, NC State Fair en tientallen kleine boeren- en makersmarkten. Op die festivals en markten hebben we echt onze tanden geknipt en aan de slag gegaan. We verkopen persoonlijk, in groothandel, op maat gemaakte bestellingen en zijn nog steeds gevestigd op onze favoriete festivals.
