Antropoloog die modeontwerper Marissa Heyl is geworden, combineert handgemaakte ambachtelijke stoffen van vrouwelijke ambachtslieden in India met modieuze ontwerpen - of wat ze graag fairtrade noemt, sexy gemaakt. Marissa's inspiratie om Symbology in 2012 te lanceren, is ontstaan uit haar onderzoek als Mahatma Gandhi Fellow, waarin ze onderzocht hoe fair trade ambachtslieden in India machtigt. Symboolologie is te zien in Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire, Rachel Zoe's Box of Style, Causebox en Belk warenhuizen. In haar vrije tijd houdt Marissa ervan om salsa te dansen en bakkerijen te bekijken op jacht naar de perfecte amandelcroissant.
