His overtures, built with incomparable energy and melodic invention, have become standalone concert pieces, played worldwide independently of the operas from which they come. William Tell, The Thieving Magpie, The Barber of Seville are among the most well-known orchestral pages in the repertoire. Boïeldieu, a French composer contemporary with Rossini, is represented by two of his most brilliant overtures. The Association des Concerts Pasdeloup, founded in 1861 by Jules Pasdeloup, is one of the oldest symphonic concert societies in France. Édouard Lindenberg conducts here with the elegance and vivacity appropriate to this repertoire. The cover, black background with a crystal chandelier photographed from above and yellow and white typography, is very graphic and characteristic of Odéon design in the 1960s. The back shows the complete catalogue of the Odéon Grande Diffusion series. Record and sleeve well preserved for their age.
