Characteristic of Mexican religious art, these ex-votos (also called milagros) are used either independently or in the decoration of more elaborate pieces to make a wish or to give thanks for a wish fulfilled. These ex-votos are made of zamac metal (a mixture of zinc, aluminum, magnesium, and copper) melted and cast in a hand-made mold. Very common in Mexico and Latin America, it is very difficult to find the artisan manufacturers who jealously guard their methods and are located in the remote areas of Mexico.
