The pumo is a ceramic bud that is about to slowly open between the leaves, it is a symbol of prosperity and fecundity, it often appears as a decorative object in the stately palaces of Puglia with the intention of bringing good luck inside but also outside the house. The word derives from the Latin “pomum” which means fruit, this term is also connected to the cult of the Goddess Pomona, the Lady who collects fruits, including those of the olive tree.
