The East Van Cross is a symbol formed by the words East and Van. Referencing the city’s Eastern half, traditionally less wealthy and harder-edged East Vancouver, now part of a renaissance becoming the artistic and cultural center. The iconic cross figure dates all the way back to the 1950s. Ken Lum, the artist, reflected the large Catholic population in East Van at the time.
