Rosemary is an evergreen shrub, an ancient medicinal and aromatic plant that is native to the Mediterranean region and prefers calcareous, sunny locations. Rosemary is a typical garrigue and maquis plant, but is also cultivated as a spice plant. In ancient times, rosemary was dedicated to Aphrodite and symbolized loyalty. Rosemary was part of the famous “Hungarian water,” one of the oldest perfumes. It is part of the “Herbs of Provence” seasoning mix and an important raw material for perfumery, cosmetics and pharmacy.
