Tamarack is the official provincial tree of the Northwest Territories. Beautiful Fact - Tamarack roots are used by First Nations Peoples in the construction of canoes. Leaves - The needle-like leaves are 10-25 mm long, have a blue-green tint and grow in 12 to 20 three-sided clusters. As in all larches, the needles are deciduous, turning from pale green to a spectacular bright yellow in the fall before being shed.
