Ireland the only child of a pagan king and devout Christian mother. At 14, she took a vow of chastity, consecrating herself to Christ. When her mother died, her father’s mental health declined and threatened Dymphna. She fled to Belgium with a priest (St. Gerebern) and two servants where she built a hospital for the poor. When her father found her, he beheaded the priest and Dymphna at 15.
