Description
High-quality reproduction inspired by George Nelson’s design. George Nelson’s Platform Bench, introduced in 1946, was part of the American designer’s first collection created for mass production with Herman Miller. Nelson was interested in form that elevated the function of an object, in creating spaces that were as beautiful as they were functional and simple. As with most of Nelson’s work, the Platform Bench features the sleek, clean lines reflecting his architectural training and the larger modernist movement towards simpler, reduced forms. As a natural material, wood is subject to effects of the environment including temperature and humidity levels. Chairs are not made from a single solid block of wood and are assembled using dowels and glue. Unlike a metal chair that is welded or a plastic chair that is made in a single mold, based on use and conditions these dowels and glue can loosen over time and may require regular maintenance to keep them performing.
