Jyoti Chand is the creative force behind By Chand designs. Coming from a lineage of textile artists, Jyoti has been immersed in the world of textile design since childhood. Self-taught, she has developed her knitting skills by learning and experimenting with a multitude of knitting stitches, writing knitwear design patterns, and developing her expertise in colour theory and styling. In 2019, she attended a workshop that introduced her to the basics of macramé knots, inspiring her to explore and develop a diverse range of macramé designs for the body and the home. Each By Chand piece is meticulously handcrafted by Jyoti, showcasing her commitment to authenticity and uniqueness. All of Jyoti's pieces are bold and vibrant in colour; an influence she has taken from her Indian heritage and extensive travels throughout India. In India, colour permeates every aspect of life, and Jyoti seeks to imbue her designs with that same vibrancy. She finds inspiration in the vivid colour palettes showcased in Bollywood cinema and on the Vogue runway, which result in her collections including timeless classics, as well as new colour trends. Jyoti firmly believes that fashion and home decor should make a lasting impression — boldness is her mantra. Based in Edinburgh, Jyoti is an avid hiker and can be found knitting on hilltops or macramé-ing in woodland.
