About Jofa African Imports

Joe first traveled to Africa in 1985. He and his brother started an African arts and crafts import and wholesale business the following year. During a trip to West Africa in 1992, Joe met Fatou in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, and we married the following year. We have been blessed with four wonderful children! We started our new venture, Jofa African Imports, in 2002. We wanted to specialize in arts and crafts from the rich cultures of West Africa. Our travels have been mainly to Burkina, Mali, Niger, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Togo. Over the years, our purchases have enriched the lives of many artisans and their families. Unfortunately, the upheavals in West Africa have made life difficult for the many people we have worked with over the years. Our ability to travel has been severely curtailed. Fortunately, we have years of treasures (many of which we have stashed away for a long time) available for you to purchase. We are in the process of moving into a new warehouse early next year, so please be patient with us as we work out of the house. Remember, most of our things are hand-made. No two items are exactly alike; many are vintage, so human or natural imperfections may be present. Since pieces are one of a kind, please feel free to request photos of other pieces if something catches your fancy.
