About Oh My Okra

The story of Oh My Okra began during a road trip in February 2016 from Toronto to Charleston, South Carolina, where Lori and David stumbled upon a farmers market stand selling whole dried okra. One bite sparked an idea they could not ignore, since this often overlooked vegetable felt like the perfect healthy snack for the Canadian market. When they returned home, they began researching okra and discovered its impressive benefits, including high fibre, potassium, and its positive link to blood sugar support. Inspired by this discovery, they created Bert’s Foods in honour of Lori’s father, Umberto, known as Bert, whose passing from type 2 diabetes shaped their commitment to honesty and integrity. After years of testing, refining, and building their vision, the two founders ultimately stepped away from their former careers to dedicate themselves fully to bringing Oh My Okra to life, driven by the belief that meaningful change begins when someone follows the path that truly calls to them.Read their story
