About Jalema

Founded in 1947, Jalema is an important player in Europe when it comes to archival and office supplies. Important in this position are our own production facilities, where innovative products are developed and produced with great care. Like no other, Jalema is able to produce quality products in a sustainable way. What Jan, Leendert and Machiel (Ja-Le-Ma) Klopman started as a small factory in Koog aan de Zaan in the 1920s has since grown into a large, successful and mature family business. In 1947, father and son Westendorff, also known as the two elephants playing, took over Jalema and settled in Steyl, Limburg. The elephant became a symbol of the items that were produced there. The housing soon turned out to be too small for the company that made letter holders, filing bags, plastic folders and similar office supplies, and in 1952, Jalema moved to Reuver. The great success came in the late 1950s with the idea to design and produce industry-specific archive systems based on a unique invention: the lateral archive folder hanging at a single hanging point. The Dutch hospital world was the first to switch massively to the Jalema system. The graphics industry followed suit. And now, with the third generation of Westendorff at the helm, Jalema is constantly conquering new branches with sophisticated and user-oriented office supplies.Read their story
