About Spells & Specimens

My name is Joshua, the artist behind Spells & Specimens. I started making art in high school but stopped throughout college and the first eight years of my career. I’m a medical laboratory scientist, a job title you may not have heard of. This is one of the reasons I started making art again—to spread awareness for the medical laboratory science profession while being creative and making things I love. I also really love Halloween, horror, and all things spooky. Attending a handful of Halloween and craft markets in the fall of 2024 gave me the push I needed to start making art again. I had been collecting Halloween greeting cards for years but started collecting prints, stickers, and enamel pins after attending these markets. As my collection slowly grew, so did the idea of starting my own shop. And that was the start of Spells & Specimens: a Halloween- and medical laboratory science-themed art shop.
