About Sacred Bean

We are coffee roasting social enterprise who teach and employ people with barriers to employment how to source, roast, and brew ethical, speciality coffee. We work directly with farms in Rwanda, Brazil, and Colombia to source the best high grade coffee. We create unique blends and sell single origin wholesale coffee options to shops, corporate bodies and business throughout the UK. It was pioneered by our founder, Darren Howie, whose now personal story is one of transformation. Working in a coffee shop and training as a barista was his first job after years of homelessness and addiction. After going to University and studying to be a community worker he set up Sacred Bean. Initially it was just a small project to support people leaving prison and addiction and teach them how to roast coffee, but gradually and organically it grew into a viable business in its own right, specifically as people stared to request our product. It is growing and branching out daily. Hence why we are now building into our future a wholesale option for our growing and diverse customer base. Read their story
