SILK/SOIE was conceived with 2 main ideas at heart: The first was to transform original hand-embroidery into beautiful wearable art in the form of scarves, shawls, and wraps. And the 2nd, was to do so while showcasing emerging artists and supporting their brand. All SILK/SOIE products are printed on the finest silk. They are luscious and elegant and original works of art printed from hand-embroidery and designed by emerging artists. At SILK/SOIE, we believe strongly that artists, particularly new artists, need an avenue, any avenue, to showcase their art. Our ongoing royalty-based ARTIST PARTNERSHIP gives emerging talents a platform to showcase their work as original wearable art while promoting their unique artistic brand. FUN FACT: Our 1st ARTIST PARTNER is THEODORE BAGER, a 4th year Industrial Design student at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). Theo has a penchant for drawing dragons. His work, which we embroidered from his original drawing, is titled DAENERYS (a not-so-subtle nod to GoT). Theo’s DAENERYS is our TOP SELLER. CONFUSED ABOUT THE PROCESS? Here is a quick run-down of how it works: 1) The ARTIST submits a drawing. 2) A line drawing of the work is transferred to fabric and, over months, is painstakingly hand-embroidered—(by me!). 3) A picture is taken of the final embroidered drawing and uploaded to design software. 4) Using the software, a scarf is designed from that picture and printed onto silk.
