About Ruby Red Skipper

Jenna McLean was raised by engineers who told her that she needed to grow up and Get A Serious Job. So she became a biologist, but art---especially the printing end of things---was always tugging at her heartstrings. While getting rid of hazardous waste became her day job, she studied letterpress and silkscreening at The School of Visual Arts in NYC on the side. Jenna was fortunate to have studied under Larry Wright, Robert Rauschenberg's right hand man and a former printer to Andy Warhol. Clean minimalism and abstract shapes now light up her line of tea towels and napkins. Coming in the near future: table runners, pillows and art prints! She named her business after her Scottish great-grandfather, the skipper of a ship named "The Ruby". With salt water in her veins and a whole lotta ink under her fingernails, she designs and prints her wares in Brooklyn, NY. Fun fact: she almost ran over Andy Warhol with her car. He decided one fine day to scamper across Fifth Avenue in NYC (near The Factory) into oncoming traffic. Jenna saw a blur of motion on her left side...slammed on the brakes....a stranger rolled up on the hood of her car...and she let loose with every obscenity she knew (which was plenty, coming from a family of sailors). Andy Warhol was crouched on the hood with his hands on the windshield, looking at her through the glass. It's not every day that you almost kill your silkscreening icon.
