Sewn Apart is an environmentally and socially conscious fashion forward accessory brand, whose flagship product is a bowtie. The bowtie is a nod to the founder's (Ericka Leigh) grandfather, but also serves as a power accessory to women everywhere. At Sewn Apart, we aim to inspire confidence and charisma by dressing dapper and funky. The creating of new textiles takes quite a toll on the environment, therefore all products are made with up-cycled fabric. This lessens our environmental footprint by avoiding virgin materials. Currently, we have a partnership with a nonprofit that helps restore women's dignity, women who are coming out of difficult situations, such as homelessness, formerly incarcerated, refugee and immigrant women. Sewn Apart has contracted some of these women to sew our products, helping them earn some money, learn a skill in sewing, and reintegrate into society. The bowties are for men, women, and all genders in between. Men are still the predominant wearers of bowties, however, we like to encourage everyone to wear them. They are very gender neutral. The name Sewn Apart comes from Ericka's personal journey of discovering herself and what she was capable of. A love for fashion arose out of the loss of her best friend. Ericka dressed better than she felt because when we look good, we feel good, and when we feel good, we have the power to change. And sometimes, we have to come apart in order to come back together.
