About Turkmen Handicrafts

Turkmen Handicrafts is a collaborative effort between Dr. Ghulam of the Turkmen community in Afghanistan and Jody Slocum in Wisconsin. Rooted in a shared vision, the project aims to provide consistent and fair income to Turkmen artisans in northern Afghanistan, enabling the women to continue their weaving traditions and sustain their cultural heritage. Each kilim is handwoven using 100% wool from local sheep, with 80% of the dyes derived from natural plant sources. Read their story
