About Trigonas

TRIGONAS The Trigonas are the stingless bees who are found in tropical biomes in Central and South America as well as islands in Oceania and Australia. They were and still are revered by the Maya people of Central America. This tropical and productive bee buzzes more than other kinds of bees. Trigonas are endangered due to climate change, the use of pesticides and herbicides, massive deforestation, and the introduction of the Africanized honey bee. My former labmate and good friend, the late Alvaro Willie Bozzoli, introduced me to the Trigonas while he researched them at the School of Chemistry of the University of Costa Rica. Alvaro passed away before his time, and we want to remember him by naming our productive business endeavor, Trigonas. We want to be like the Trigonas: harmless, productive, cooperative, and ingenious.Read their story
