Alaya is an Indian, women-owned loose leaf tea company based in Los Angeles. Our name comes from “Himalaya,” the region that inspired us to build a tea company. After traversing this mountainous area in India’s Northeast, visiting small farmers and tea estates, we were keen to build a company that respects these communities and brings us closer to the beverage we consume every day. Alaya was built to invest in these farmers, the nature in which they work, and the health of tea-growing regions’ ecosystems in India. We offer loose leaf tea (versus a tea-bag) as we believe tea should be drunk fresh and plastic-free. We also use 100% compostable bags with a compostable zipper, allowing customers to reseal the pouch between brews and preserve freshness. Our products have been featured in Good Housekeeping, Bon Appetit, Martha Stewart Living, Food & Wine, Washington Post, and NY Mag.
