Shane Dorey is a glass artist shaped by more than 20 years of dedicated studio practice. His work is grounded not only in sculptural expression, but in the demanding craft that allows those forms to exist with strength, balance, and longevity. Glass is unforgiving. It requires precision, timing, and an intimate understanding of heat, gravity, and structure. Shane approaches every piece as a craftsperson first. Before a sculpture can be expressive, it must be sound. Walls are evenly balanced, heat is carefully controlled, and internal stress is managed invisibly, all while working with molten glass at over 2,000 degrees. This technical fluency, earned through decades at the bench, gives him the freedom to push form without sacrificing integrity. His sculptures draw inspiration from natural systems, particularly water and marine life. Fish, waves, and flowing organic forms appear as distilled impressions rather than literal replicas. Influenced by the New England coast, his work reflects movement, current, and subtle asymmetry, capturing a sense of motion held in glass.
