About Localsaurus

Recently, there has been a movement towards supporting small businesses and making a conscious effort to spend money with local “mom & pop” businesses over “big box” companies. Many consumers realize that most of the money spent at a small business gets recycled back into the local community as opposed to the leakage per every dollar spent at a chain establishment. In addition, consumers have trended towards more authentic and local experiences as indicated by the revitalization of downtown areas and the migration away from shopping malls. From this movement, terms like #shoplocal, #eatlocal, #shopsmall, and #supportlocal have gained a lot of traction via social media. These terms are a great way for customers to share their favorite businesses with families and friends and also for small businesses to promote their businesses as being local and homegrown. A Localsaurus is someone who would prefer to shop in local and regional stores and restaurants over national and international chains. They are diligent about sharing their support for those businesses via social media and they encourage others to do the same. Jeff Bell and Kellianne Davis have been living the #LocalsaurusLife since before they coined the phrase. They met as colleagues in local government where they worked daily to support the well-being of the small business community.
