About I Heart Stitch Art

Welcome! I'm Sarah Milligan, the creator of I Heart Stitch Art. I design hand embroidery patterns, and turn them into artisanal embroidery kits that make stitching fun and accessible. I know how healing embroidery can be, and I want to share it; my goal is to help others inject a little creativity into their lives. This all started back in 2014. I was struggling through an intensely stressful season of life; with 3 children under 5, we had just moved for the 9th time in 9 years, when my husband lost his job. To top it off, our newborn was diagnosed with a devastating genetic disease (Cystic Fibrosis). To say I needed stress relief is an understatement, and I went looking for handwork. I remembered liking embroidery as a child, but I didn’t have much time or energy to look for all the supplies I needed. I wanted a kit to make it easy, but couldn’t find anything I liked - the designs were outdated and the materials uninspiring. So I decided to make my own, using beautiful linen, smooth wooden hoops, and designs I drew. I taught myself to embroider and to print patterns, and launched I Heart Stitch Art from a corner of my kids’ playroom. Since then, we've booked over 13,000 sales on Etsy and have been featured by Etsy, Better Homes & Gardens, the Holderness Family, and more! The business has since outgrown the playroom, but it is still a family affair; my husband and I make and ship everything from our home studio in BC, Canada. We're so thankful for your support!
