Carole Shiber presents her hand-painted table art, placemats, napkin rings, napkins, runners and centerpieces, including such inventions as the Leafy Napkin Ring-to-Coaster(tm), the Sculpted Linen Leaf Basket(tm), and with her partner and husband, Bill Cochran, the interactive Tabletop Garden. Her designs are a merchandisers and tablescapers dream ~ all made in the USA ~ that invite us to to mix, match, layer and interlock her functional and fluid placemats into runners and centerpieces. Carole began painting fabrics in 1989 selling the first collection of her hand-painted “Piece Meals” to Macy*s NY ~ a $10.000 order she single-handedly filled from her bedroom in Brooklyn. Orders quickly followed from other neighborhood stores: ABC Carpet & Home, Barney’s New York, Henri Bendel and Fellissimo. Next came a personal appearance at Neiman-Marcus; then a $40,000 order from Williams-Sonoma, the big truck pulling up in front of her brownstone apartment to pick up 96 boxes of her hand-painted leaf & flower placemats ~ the driver admitting it was his first domestic pick-up ever. Her placemats wipe clean with a sponge for easy care, and many are made on sustainable products such as hemp, flax, recycled polyester, or repurposed materials.
