About BMF Jewelry

BMF jewelry was born from my desire to make things. Simple as that. It has taken a few forms over the almost 20 years it has supported me- small town craft sales, fine craft shows, galleries, and custom work of all kinds. I make unique, comfortable, durable, hand-made jewelry that stands out. Over the years I have been drawn to magnetic fields, geometry, and the microscopic world. I live in a northern forest, I walk in the woods and think about the systems making it all work. Patterns in all their forms, simple elements repeated and combined making larger networks. Playing with silver wires, nestling in brass shapes then connecting them is meditation for me, those are my patterns, something I know in my hands as much as my brain. Lately, I've been learning lacemaking techniques to make microscopic elements- cells and neurons. I take those delicate wire lace pieces and roll them almost flat in a rolling mill. Then I sandwich them between sapphire sheets using high quality epoxy which allows me to cut the result like a stone. I roll silver wires between steel cylinders to give them a rounded edge with a soft feel and look. I bend and twist then fuse the metal where it meets. Brass details are added as I go along, accenting the rhythm and tying it all together. They are tarnished completely black, I brush off the high points to bring out the details then seal the brass with the same material they use for musical instruments. I use stiff hypoallergenic steel for the ear wires.Read their story
