THE BEGINNINGS Maria Rodriguez The story about Conservas Avelina dates back to great-grandmother María Rodríguez. A woman with a lifetime dedicated to the sea. It began making anchovies at the end of the 19th century, with the arrival of the first Italians in Santoña. The place where their preserves dulled was a small house next to the marsh. In 1960, a very important event occurred in Santoña for our work. For which our grandmother Avelina earned a professional place among the best artisans in the production of anchovies and bonito in the north. Grandmother Avelina, a woman who, thanks to what happened in April 1960, dedicated herself professionally to making preserves. Now Avelina, Jesús and their son are the 4th generation of canning dogs in the family. These are responsible for following a tradition rooted in family roots. In the industrial area of Santoña, since 2015 we have been back next to the place where our great-grandmother started next to the marshes of Santoña.
