About Huggy Buddha International

Our Story. It all started with Sandra de Vries when her daughter said she was pregnant with her first child, Sandra's first grandchild. For Sandra, it was immediately clear that she did not want to give an average maternity gift at birth, but something meaningful. How could she do otherwise: she herself had a store full of meaningful things, such as gemstones, singing bowls and Buddhas? But all those things were made of hard material. It had to be soft and loving. Bringer of happiness. Sandra thought of the Happy Buddha, as an ancient bringer of happiness. After all, what more could you wish for a baby than a happy life? That had to be it: a plush Happy Buddha, a “huggy Buddha”. It was a special moment. She went looking for it, and found that no one had ever thought of it. The rest is history. Sandra decided to design and make it herself, not only for her own grandchild, Lily, but for everyone, young and old. Because everyone needs happiness, and sometimes a hug. Since then, Huggy Buddha has been spreading happiness and love, helping every child and person embrace the magic of a loving life.Read their story
