We are Caro & Nina, founders of happy wrappi, reusable gift packaging made of fabric. Our vision is to significantly reduce gift wrap waste and make the gift packaging world more sustainable. We want to initiate systemic change! Christmas 2020 moved us to rethink. The huge mountain of rubbish under the Christmas tree has been annoying us for a long time, but last year we did the math: around 8,000 tons of paper waste are produced in Germany for Christmas alone — plus adhesive strips, bows and gift tags. In short: a huge amount of avoidable waste. What was not clear to us was that in some cases even residual waste, as many gift wrap papers are coated and therefore cannot be recycled at all. Fortunately, we discovered the Japanese furoshiki technique for ourselves. In Japan, square furoshiki cloths have traditionally been used as packaging and bags since the Edo period (1603—1868). And we now want to bring them to Germany! With our happy wrappis, we take the ritual of giving gifts to a new level! Using simple folding and knotting techniques based on the furoshiki technique, our reusable gift towels become packaging with a wow factor. Read their story
