About Tatau Carvings

At an early age, Tatau learned the family logging business in the rain forests of Washington state, participating in chainsaw carving competitions at 12 years old. In his rebellious teen years, Tatau sought refuge in his natural artistic ability. After serving in the Navy, he immersed himself in the arts attending the Cornish School of the Arts and Seattle Art Institute. Tatau applied his art talents to creating a successful tattoo business in Seattle and was in the industry for over 20 years. Longing for a simpler life, Tatau moved to the Big Island and began carving wood. “I have pursued many other paths in life and have come full circle in the solace of art.” He now has made his style of “tattooed wood” carvings his own.Read their story
