The birth of Meerzeit watches — A story of tradition, solidarity and time It was a stormy day in 2016 when two young sailors from East Frisia, Kristof and Jannes, sailed on the turbulent waters south of Heligoland. As they looked forward to the majestic sight of the red stone rock, they had profound conversations about the inseparable connection to their homeland. Kristof, with a self-sewn bracelet in black, red and blue — the colors of the East Frisian flag — adorned his wrist, which connected him to East Frisia even in the distance. While the salt of the North Sea swayed their faces and the fresh wind blew their sails, the friends philosophized about the characteristics of their homeland: the rushing sea, the fresh breeze, the salty air and the warm “Moin” of the locals. These elements not only shaped the landscape, but also the people — traditional, a bit rough, but always good-natured. In this atmosphere of shared reflection and longing, the idea was born to create a symbol of this deep bond. Something that not only shows the time, but also serves as a compass that always reminds you of the importance of making time for the really important things in life.
