About Johnna Joy Designs

My name is Johnna Joy (pronounced John-uh, they/them/she/her). I am East Bay Area born and raised, recently transplanted to a small town in rural Iowa. I am queer and nonbinary, mama to a wonderful 6 year old, lover of all making, and I am, as you may have guessed, the designer (and pretty much everything else!) here! I love all forms of arts and creation - I started out in theatre. From 2006 to 2016, I primarily acted, slowly moving into costuming, direction, tech work, and indie filmmaking. I studied costuming for a year and a half in college. That was when I really started falling in love with the ability to make things with my hands. After I had my kid I found more and more ways to be creative at home, which is how my shop ended up growing into my full time job!Read their story
