Family-Owned Since 1928 For nearly 100 years, it has been the mission of Peter Pauper Press to create fine books and gifts that sold "at prices even a pauper could afford." Started in 1928 by a young Peter Beilenson, who was later joined by his wife, Edna, Peter Pauper Press is remarkable in that, as a leading twenty-first century publishing company, it remains family owned and operated. Peter's son, Nick, and his wife, Evelyn, took over the Press in the 1980s, and grew the company into a preeminent gift and stationery publisher. Their children, John, Suzanne, and Laurence, assisted Nick and Evelyn; in the 1990s, Laurence and his wife, Esther, joined the company full-time. Today, Laurence serves as President and Publisher, his daughter Hannah has joined the fold as an Editor, and the Press continues to grow and evolve.
